A Hi-line solar hot water system is the typical solar hot water system that you would see on the roof of many houses. These systems consist of the heating panels and the tank both on the roof. They are a very simple system with minimal mechanical parts, because of this they tend to have a long life span. They are typically boosted with an electric heating element.

A Lo-line solar system consists of the heating panels on the roof and the tank on the ground, they have a small pump that circulates the water from the heating panels to the tank. These are a great option if you don’t want to have a large tank of water on your roof. They are also a great option because the tank is on the ground, this allows them to be boosted in many different ways.

A Gas Boosted solar hot water system is generally a Lo-line system where the tank is on the ground, because the tank is on the ground we are able to boost the temperature of the water with gas which gives us the best of both worlds. Solar systems are fantastic in summer, however in winter they can become costly to run as it uses electricity. Gas boosting gives you great efficiency all year round.

An Evacuated Tube System works in a very similar way to a solar, its panel absorbs the heat from the sun and is then circulated back to a tank to store the hot water. This is a newer technology and is very efficient, the evacuated tubes are able to heat the water with much less exposure to the sun than traditional solar panels. Like the other Lo-line systems, these tanks are located on the ground, so they can be coupled with a gas booster for maximum efficiency.
